Storm Rips Through Willow

On the evening of Thursday, August 28, 2008, a nasty storm rips through the valley of Phoenix, Arizona. One of the hardest hit areas is the Willow Historic District in downtown Phoenix.

In talking with APS (Arizona Public Service (Power Co.)) they stated there were sustained winds of 70mph + for over three hours and the highest peak was 125mph.

After surveying the damage myself on several walks it was definitely a microburst in the area. Having been a State Trooper back east and worked several hurricanes, the damage in the Willows was due to winds in excess of 100mph.

Take a moment to view photos from my walks in the area.

I also want to point out the hard work and dedication of APS and their crews. They are doing an exellent job and in talking with some of the crews they have pulled in help/crews from throughout the state to restore power as quick as possible.
